Travelers and Tasters

Everyone eats food but not everyone enjoys eating.  I once knew someone who would choose to take a pill every day for nourishment because eating takes too much time.  I guess everyone has a right to their own opinion, but my goodness, how depressing is that?!  Food, especially good food, makes me happy.  Wine with the food is a must and adds to the sensory experience.  Discovering interesting new tastes and variety makes life interesting.  Eating a meal is a pleasure and an event not to be missed.

In the same way, traveling as an activity is practiced differently by people.  Some travelers attempt to keep their routines, eating habits, clothes and everything the same when traveling (think “Accidental Tourist”) while others embrace the change.  While I can be a person who is set on schedules and routines in my normal life, when I travel I seek out the new and foreign ways and attempt to experience them all (well, to a safe limit anyway.)  As my favorite author, Bill Bryson, has said:

“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.”
